Health and safety at work

đź› First aid training is not just about transmitting knowledge. It's also about absorbing the realities of the field.

We often think we know the risks … until an accident reminds us otherwise.

Last week, I had the privilege of leading a health and safety training session for a team of carpenters, electricians, and plumbers.

Experienced professionals who know their trade , their tools and their worksites .

However, as in all sectors, certain habits sometimes end up becoming established:

đź’ˇ Quickly get on without fastening your harness because "it'll only take two minutes"

đź’ˇ Using a ladder without properly securing it because "it's just for a moment"

đź’ˇ Postponing a tool inspection because "everything seemed fine yesterday"

đź’ˇ Forgetting certain PPE because "the task is simple"

It is generally not the workers who lack knowledge.

It is often the pace, the pressure, the routine or the confidence that leads us to take shortcuts.

What particularly struck me during this training was the quality of the discussions . A dynamic and interactive presentation always allows you to go much further than a simple transfer of information.

The participants shared their experiences, their realities on the ground, their successes, but also real-life situations that allowed the whole group to learn.

And that's what I love most about my job: even when we're there to train, we always leave having learned something ourselves.

Prevention is not just a matter of rules and procedures.

It's an ongoing conversation between people who want to get home safely at the end of each day.

Thank you to this dedicated team for their participation, openness and the richness of their insights.

Because in occupational health and safety, experience is valuable, but the humility to continue learning is just as valuable.
